Bakong, Siem Reap

4.5
The first of the mountain temples of Angkor, Bakong sits as an archetype of Khmer religious architecture, dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva. Built in 881 CE, the ancient sandstone remnant was once a grand house of worship in the Rolous group of temples. Encounter its historical significance with a walk around its expansive grounds, crossing two defence moats to the five-step pyramid, said to represent the sacred Mount Meru. Look to the north-east tower of the central sanctuary for some of the best-preserved Khmer architecture. You'll have to pay for admission at the archaeological park’s entrance. • Very nice temple! You will find much less visitors compared with the other temples in Angkor. Good vibes!
  • So worth the trip out to here for this temple complex. Also a nice cafe nearby Sister Cafe and Restaraunt
