Tongsa Dzong, Trongsa

#33 of 198 in Things to do in Bhutan
Must see · Landmark · Tourist Spot
The largest dzong fortress in Bhutan, Tongsa Dzong sits precariously on a spur overlooking the dramatic gorge carved by the Mangde River. Although a temple occupied this site as early as 1543, the structure was eventually transformed into a dzong and went through various enlargements to become the current fortress. Consider bringing along a picnic to enjoy in a quiet courtyard.
