The Tower of Trongsa Museum, Trongsa

#5 of 9 in Museums in Bhutan
Specialty Museum · Museum
Perched upon verdant hills, The Tower of Trongsa Museum offers five floors of Buddhist history and artifacts, as well as panoramic views of the valley below. Built by the first governor of Trongsa in 1652, the watchtower served to protect the region from internal rebellion, controlling the whole of the central and eastern regions of the nation from its lofty and strategic position. The main tower now contains a temple dedicated to cultural hero King Gesar, and an in-depth museum focusing on Buddhist art and the relics of Bhutan's royalty. The museum can be reached by car, or by climbing over 600 steps from the town below.
