See the many phallic statues at Chimi Lhakhang Temple, a shrine of a fertility saint. Standing on a round hillock amid rice paddies and mustard fields, the modest temple contains a 25 cm (10 in) tall wood and ivory lingam, the centerpiece for those seeking a blessing for fertility from a resident monk. Built in 1499 by Drukpa Kunley--the so-called "saint of 5,000 women" who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan--the temple gained notoriety for its fertility wish grants to childless couples. Local villagers continue this tradition, evidenced in the colorful lingams painted on their houses as well as many funny phallic signposts and memorabilia sold in the village. Interesting place to visit. You will see a lot of drawings of male genitals throughout the road. Actually it has an interesting story behind it. Don’t forget to ask you guide about the story. The temple has a serene atmosphere. The soothing wind and calm atmosphere will heal your tiredness. The architecture will surely catch you eyes. Beautiful place.
Brilliant architecture, it was lovely to see it. The only thing was its being renovated currently...should be ready in its new avatar in 2 - 3 months.
